Annual General Meeting

The AGM will be held at the Wroxeter Hotel on Thursday 21st June 2018. A sit-down meal will be provided for all attendees. A CET event will form part of the evening with 3 interactive peer review CET points on offer, for DOs and OOs. This will be a great opportunity to network and share ideas with fellow professionals in the area.

This year two of our longstanding members are stepping down from the committee and as such there will be two vacancies to fill on the Committee. The last vacancy was hotly contested. New NICE Guidance - What's the Effect?

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has updated its guideline on the diagnosis and management of glaucoma

with new recommendations on glaucoma and cataract.

For the time being you should continue to refer glaucoma patients confirmed to have IOP of 22 or over and cataract patients with a VA of 6/12 or worse AND symptoms affecting their lifestyle. There's more information below on the new guidance.

Glaucoma - It looks like the new minimum referral IOP (by Goldmann) will become 24mmHg.

Cataract - NICE is recommending that future commissioning should " not restrict access to cataract surgery on the basis of visual acuity. "

Please note that current referral practices have not yet been changed.

PRIMARY & SECONDARY CARE

CHEC

CHEC are taking over the ophthalmology services currently offered by the Practice. CHEC will triage all ophthalmology referrals sent through the GP. This also means that patients whose follow up appointments are behind schedule can be re-referred though the GP and will be offered an appointment within 7 days.

RSH eye outpatient clinics moved

Adult ophthalmology outpatient appointments and the urgent eye clinic for adults and paediatric patients have moved to the Copthorne Building at RSH from Monday 26 June 2017.

Paediatric ophthalmology outpatient appointments have temporarily moved to the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford from 30 May 2017.

The services can be accessed in the same way as currently and all existing telephone numbers will move to the new department.

Post Cataract Appointments from Leighton Hospital, Cheshire

An opportunity has arisen to conduct post operative cataract follow ups, as we already do for our SaTH patients, for those who receive their treatment at Leighton Hospital. This is commissioned through Cheshire Primary Eyecare Company (LOC Company). Any practice interested in doing post cataract follow ups for Leighton Hospital please see information on 'post cataract' page under Practitioner Information.

WET AMD Referrals

Please note that Mr Rao would prefer these referrals to be made by fax on the College of Ophthalmologists Referral form (which can be downloaded from the Wet AMD referrals page of this website.)
