In the Sefton area we are lucky to have Aintree University Hospital who have been approved for the treatment of WET AMD with Lucentis/Eylea

Patients will be under the care of one of the Retinal Consultants Mr D Clark, Mr A Kamal, Nihal Kenawy. Indu Kumar, L. Toth

The treatments can now be on first as well as second eyes.To avoid delays and ensure the patients are seen promptly a direct referral scheme has been set up.

Please note patients with vision LESS THAN 6/96 are not eligible for referral under the direct scheme and should be referred as normal via their GP.

However patients with lower levels of vision but recent vision loss (less than 1/12) can have their details faxed through under the "Fast track" scheme.

You should leave a message on any of the answering machines to say that you have sent a fax referral and who the patient. Aintree will only return your call if we they a problem with the referral or we they not received the fax referral.

Community Optometrists are encouraged to refer their patients directly to Aintree using the downloadable forms as long as they meet the 6/96 or better criteria. Please complete the form using black ink and fax through as per the details on the form.

The new wet AMD service from Isight Southport has just gone live, so for those patients who live in the north of the patch and elsewhere, we now have an alternative referral choice
