North and North East Lincolnshire LOC

North & North East Lincolnshire Local Optometric Committee (LOC) is the statutory NHS body which represents the providers and performers of General Ophthalmic Services (GOS), as well as other local optometric services, in the area.

The Committee is responsible to the Area Team of NHS England. It also interacts with the clinical commissioning groups within North and North East Lincolnshire.

GOS (known commonly as NHS sight testing) is provided by contractors (normally high street practices and domiciliary companies). Contracts can be held by optometrists, ophthalmic medical practitioners, dispensing opticians, lay persons or companies. Sight tests are usually carried out (performed) by optometrists, who must be registered with the General Optical Council and be on the Ophthalmic Performers List administered by an Area Team on behalf of NHS England.
