CUES

Leeds LOC is delighted to announce that NHS Leeds CCG has commissioned a COVID-19 Urgent Eyecare Service (CUES) in Leeds, using optical practices. The service is launched on 30th July, 2020.

CUES means using our skills to manage many patients within primary care optometry and reducing the number of referrals to ophthalmology.

A single contract has been agreed with Primary Eyecare Services (PES) Ltd who will subcontract with optical practices to deliver the service, who will use a new referral and image sharing platform.

The CUES pathway has been developed by LOCSU, NHSE-I and CCEHC, endorsed by the College of Optometrists and Royal College of Ophthalmologists (see attached diagram).

An important component of the service is to ensure the patient has an initial triage to ensure they are directed to the most suitable practice for their symptoms/condition.

Practices will receive payments between £45 and £70 per episode depending on the level of care provided.

We believe this is an exciting moment for optometry in Leeds with the possibility to develop and expand other community service pathways.

If you wish to express an interest in providing the service and havent already done so, you can complete an expression of interest form.
