Urgent referrals to eye casualty should be made by contacting the eye casualty triage nurse on:

telephone No 0121 507 6780  fax No 0121 507 6773/6711

The triage nurse will discuss with you whether the patient should be sent immediately or next day.  You should give the patient a short written referral  letter for them to present on arrival in the eye casualty department or fax your referral letter to the above fax number once you have spoken to the nurse.

Fast track referrals for Wet AMD, Retinal Vein Occlusion or Glaucoma should be faxed to 0121 507 6726  (tel 0121 507 6714)

Offers NHS Direct cataract with choice of provider but not YAG.

Also holds NHS general ophthalmology clinics able to accept referrals for visual defects, external eye problems, eye lid disease ocular plastics, minor ops (lumps and bumps) keratoconus (including collagen cross linking), macula disease.  Often able to arrange appointments at short notice.  For further information click on the link to the "Westbourne Presentation" below.

For patients with low vision Focus Birmingham is able to provide many services from supply of low vision aids to home visits to assess the patients requirements and to train them in the use of their LVAs
